Woodridge PTSO Meeting Notes, January 13, 2009 Ÿ Guest speaker, Rocky Treppiedi, President, Spokane School Board. There was a short video on the upcoming 2009 Bond and Levy scheduled for March 10, 2009. A flyer was handed out and will also be sent home. To learn more about this issue, visit spokaneschools.org or call 354-5900. Ÿ Information has been sent home about the Children’s Matinee Winter Series at Wandemere Cinemas. The movies run for 9 weeks from 1-17-09 through 3-15-09. This series is different from past movie series. You will need to purchase a ticket for a specific date and time for the entire series. Ÿ The Book Drive is currently underway for our Book ‘n Bake Sale (25c Used Book Sale) which will be held on Friday, January 23rd. The Bake sale items will be on sale for 50c and there will also be soda and water available for sale. Ÿ Albertson’s Community Partners Program is changing their system and will require everyone to re-link their Preferred Savings Card. We have been earning much needed funding through this program. It’s a simple procedure to re-link your card, and flyers have been sent home explaining the procedure. Ÿ There will be a Money Jar Assembly presented by Spokane Teacher’s Credit Union on March 19, 2009. Ÿ The Skate Night has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb 9th. Ÿ There was no Site Council meeting in December. The next Site Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 3:15pm, in the library. Ÿ Per Mr. Melody, a snow make-up day will be on Friday, Jan. 30th. He will announce when, and if, any other make-up days will occur. A BIG thank you goes out to our Head Custodian, Steve Anzalone, who has done a fantastic job of keeping up with all the snow removal! Mr. Melody also indicated that our local Boy Scout troop helped out last weekend in shoveling the snow away from the windows and that the PTSO provided refreshments for all their hard work. Ÿ Per Julie, a BIG thank you also goes out to Mr. Melody for all his hard work shoveling snow -- before, during and after school (even on the weekends). Ÿ Mrs. Ernst gave the Staff Report. She extended thanks on behalf of the Woodridge teachers for their laser printers. Ÿ Math is Cool: Per Jean Wilson, we are still in need of coaches and assistant coaches for all grades, but especially 4th & 6th grades. There is no coach for the 6th grade and they have their event on February 6th. Flyers will go out this week to parents and teachers this week. Ÿ Science Fair: Per Jean, it is scheduled for Feb. 5th & 6th. Judges are needed for both days. An informational flyer has been sent to all students and their parents. Janell Grubb is the chairperson. Ÿ Spelling Bee: Per Kirstin Shisler, the word list went out to all the teachers who will hold their class bee through the month with the Final Bee held on Feb. 19 & 20th. Judges are needed for both days. Ÿ Memory Book: Per Kirstin, order forms will be going out in the near future. Ÿ Sports Tickets: Per Julie, tickets are being sold for Gonzaga Women’s Basketball through tomorrow (Jan. 15th). The next sports events will be a Chiefs game sometime in February. Ÿ New Business: Julie reported that the primary teachers are requesting funds (around $5,000) for a new Book Room for grades K-3 (8 classes). They are looking at leveled books at a guided reading level that will provide more than just comprehension. The members discussed earmarking a specific fund-raising event for this purpose. Mrs. Ernst will meet with the teachers and have them break down the book request and report back at the next meeting, where this will be discussed in more detail.
